We had an incredible opportunity today to showcase the technology being developed through City Digital to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and London Mayor Sadiq Khan at the UI LABS Innovation Center. Representatives from City Digital’s partner organizations were onsite to show the mayors demos of the Underground Infrastructure Mapping, Smart Green Infrastructure Monitoring, and Building Analytics pilots, which pose solutions for challenges faced by both Chicago and London.
The trip to Chicago marked Mayor Khan’s first visit to a U.S. city as mayor. Prior to touring UI LABS, the two mayors signed a Memorandum of Understanding at 1871 that “brings the cities together around the shared goal of open data as a tool to promote government innovation and economic development,” according to World Business Chicago.
Before the mayors arrived, City Digital partners participated in a roundtable discussion focused on sustainable cities and technology moderated by Karen Weigert, a senior fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the former chief sustainability officer for the City of Chicago.
