CHICAGO CITY SOLUTIONS SERIES
by City Tech Collaborative
April 23, 2018
The United Nations Uraía Platform has selected the City of Chicago and City Tech to host the first ever City Solutions Series. The global conference on July 11th and 12th, will bring Chicago’s city solutions to international visibility and foster discussion between other local governments with similar projects, issues, and challenges.
The goal for this event is to undertake an in-depth examination of Chicago’s efforts to use technologies to overcome management and service delivery challenges and allow cities from around the world to compare their own experiences from a city-to-city perspective.
- Infrastructure Management: Projects leveraging innovations like open data or predictive analytics to improve service delivery, water management, and waste management.
- Mobility & Transportation: Projects seeking to reduce congestion, manage transportation demand shifts, or deploy new or alternative transportation modes/technologies like electric vehicles or automated vehicles.
- Emergency Preparedness: Projects offering new approaches to address fires, flooding, terrorism, or extreme heat.
- Public Health: Projects leveraging data or technology to address air quality, water quality, or city health inspections.
The workshop will gather about 100 participants, including mayors, governors, and local government officials, as well as representatives from ministries and central governments, the private sector, research institutes, academia, and international organizations. The deadline for registration to attend is June 5th, 2018.
Uraía and City Tech have also launched a call for international experiences across the 4 priority areas: infrastructure management, mobility & transportation, emergency preparedness, and public health. The objective is to gather information on other cities’ ongoing or planned initiatives that are applying technology solutions in these areas. Cities who submit their experiences will be eligible to speak at the Chicago City Solutions Series and also will be eligible to receive travel and accommodation sponsorships. City project submissions are due on May 13th, 2018. Cities can access the project submission form here.
